Out with the old, in with the new

Seems like the Steve (Jobs that is) cannot spend a month without announcing some new revolutionary product. Just in time for the holiday marketing machine to pick up steam, the big announcement was a complete revamp of the iPod line. New sizes, colors, prices, and extended battery life. Yawn.

To be honest, a few of the new things are interesting. The much-rumored iPod Touch is finally here and everyone that wants to buy a phone-less iPhone for $100 less now can. Wi-Fi ITMS is one feature is really new and will excite the masses. Why it took so long is anyones guess. The Steve probably felt that a real browser was need to build on top of.

The quirky part of the announcement is the ability to get to Wi-Fi ITMS while in a Starbucks location, for free. True to form, the Apple marketing machine kicks into high gear.

Say you’re in line at Starbucks. You hear this amazing song wafting from the speakers. You gotta have it. Now. Tap the iTunes button on your iPhone or iPod touch, tap the Starbucks button, and voilà: You see the current song, the last 10 songs played, and featured Starbucks Collections. Preview, buy, and download whatever you like, right then and there.

The caveat? Your free access is ONLY to ITMS. Gotcha!

Looks like the Steve will be having a merry time playing Zen-ta Claus this holiday season.
